Explore Calgary before the Stampede

June 29, 2017

Hi our adventurous friends,

Calgary has a lot to offer during the Stampede, which is this year from July 7-16. However, there are still some amazing activities and places you should definitely check out before  the biggest outdoor show in the worlds starts.

Here are our suggestions:

1. Calgary Zoo

If you're visiting with family, your partner or alone, the Calgary zoo is an attraction you don't want to miss, if you like zoos. It is easy to get there with the Calgary transit and super close to downtown. Also the "New Land of Lemurs" exhibit opens July 5th, 2017.

2. Heritage Park

The Heritage Park is Canada’s largest living history museum, with hundreds of exhibits, rides, shops, restaurants and daily demonstrations and activities to keep you captivated in the past.

4. Shopping malls

If you enjoy shopping or the weather is not the greatest, we would highly recommend a day at one of Calgary's malls. Right now the summer sale started and there are many great deals going on. So the right time to get your Stampede outfit. Cross Iron Mills offers many outlet stores of premium brands such as Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger. Available for only out of town guests, you get a booklet that is offered at the Guest Services desk located in the Ranch Neighbourhood, with lots of coupons. Make sure to bring your ID or passport.

5. Calgary Tower

The Calgary Tower is a must-see for any visitor. On the observation deck, experience a 360° panoramic view of the city, the foothills and the majestic Rocky Mountains. They also have the famous restaurant from the movie "Cool Runnings" in case you get hungry.

6. Shakespear by the Bow

One of the highlights of Calgary’s summer season is Shakespeare by the Bow. Theatre Calgary’s Shakespeare by the Bow gives all Calgarians and tourists an opportunity to enjoy theatre in this gorgeous natural setting throughout the summer. This years play is "As You Like It" from June 20 to August 27, 2017. Bring a blanket, pack a picnic and join a gorgeous evening in Prince’s Island Park. This event is free but they would appreciate a donation.

7. WinSport

The WinSport at the COP in Calgary offers all year around activities for the whole family. The summer activities include Mountain Bike, Zipline, Skyline Luge and Mini Golf just to name a few. This summer the 810-foot, three-lane water slide is back and open for weekends and holidays during July and August. The slide will provide hours of entertainment for all family members and with their new ticket system, you can slide all you want for two hours.
