Have you ever tried Bear Balls?- Our Calgary Stampede experience

July 20, 2017

Hi our adventurous friends,

the last two weeks were pretty crazy and busy. The Calgary Stampede was in town from July 7th to 16th and the whole city was full of cowboys, cowgirls and tourists from all over the world. The festivity celebrates the people, the animals, the land, the traditions and the values that make up the unique spirit of the west.

The Calgary Stampede started with a parade on Friday 7th. It's a colorful parade that represents all the different nations that live here, Calgary's history as well as everything that makes this city so unique.

We made our way to the Stampede grounds on Sunday at family day; one of their value days. The admission was for free until noon.

We walked around and checked out the rides and the midway, where you can find delicious and unique food. If there is a place you can try Butter Chicken Bear Balls, the World’s Hottest Pizza or Crispy Chicken Feet on a Stick then it is definitely here. If you want to see what other food creations were served click here. Our personal favorite was the classic mini donuts - too good to just have one bag.

As the temperature was rising we went to the Big Four Building to cool off and to check out the International Pavilion. Through out the day several talented artists were performing and entertaining the crowd. You could also shop for jewelry, apparel, handmade and painted potteries and much more.

On the East entrance we discovered "BBQ on the Elbow", a bbq competition that was held from July 7 - Sunday, July 9, where everyone was invited to come down and test their taste buds with delicious samples from selected competitors. Unfortunately, we were too early so we weren't able to try some of the food but we got offered free Mc Donald's Ice Coffee and two Heinz ketchup bottles with our pictures on them.

On our way back we made a stop at the Coca-Cola stage, where you were able to check out performances from local, national and international performers during the ten days. The shows were free with admission to the Stampede Park. Headliners were Alessia Cara, Alx Veliz and Nelly Furtado, just to name a few.

You can definitely spend hours at the Stampede Park, going to the rodeo, learn about the First Nations traditions and culture in the Indian village or watch the jaw-dropping fireworks in the evening. At the Calgary Stampede there is something for everyone!
